Declaration of Response to 337-TA-1057 Sruvey case

  1. Shenzhen Silver Star Intelligent Technology Co., Inc., is pleased to announce that it has hired the international law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP to defend it in an investigation No. 337-TA-1057 instituted on May 17 by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

The firm has been representing clients with intellectual property needs for 120 years and has practiced in numerous forums, including district and appellate courts, arbitrations, the ITC, and many others. The firm has more than 120 lawyers advising clients in intellectual property law.
  3. The company has tapped Pillsbury partner Jack Ko, Ph.D. to lead the defense. Dr. Ko is located in Pillsbury’s Shanghai and San Diego offices and has a long track record providing strategic IP counseling, litigation and technical advice to companies in the U.S., Taiwan and China. With advanced degrees in electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Ko leverages legal and hands-on experience in semiconductors, materials science, nanotechnology, wireless technology, optics, computer architecture and smartphones to deliver effective counsel to clients. He litigates in U.S. district courts and represents clients in ITC, arbitration and USPTO proceedings, including inter partes reviews. He earned his law degree at the University of Michigan Law School and he serves as the managing partner of Pillsbury’s Shanghai office.
  4. This matter involves an investigation of certain robotic vacuum cleaning devices and components thereof such as spare parts.  The products at issue in the investigation are autonomous vacuum cleaners that clean a designated area without human intervention.
  5. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by iRobot Corporation of Bedford, MA, on April 18, 2017.  The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States and sale of certain robotic vacuum cleaning devices and components thereof such as spare parts infringe patents asserted by the complainant. Silver Star is among several other companies being investigated.
